Prog Blague - Rosalyn

Woweezowee Prague sure was an adventure! The journey began with such a warm welcome. Except for it didn’t at all. Our first public transportation experience of the city began with us all being escorted off of a tram because of invalidated tickets, while they were in the process of being validated. The officer, that none of us were really certain was legitimate, shouted two things that were audible to us in the back, “one thousand,” and “cash.” Seemed like a scam until someone explained that the currency was so inflated that it was really only about 45 dollars. That, and later I saw someone without a uniform later asking to see tickets. It was hard to understand what was happening at first, because it seemed like a rando trying to sell as a little price of jewelry or a pin, but we realized it was a badge, after a few people tried to decline his “offer”. That night, I confided in my sweet sweet grandmother that I wanted to go home, and she told me, “but Prague is the most beautiful city in the world!” I replied, “who told you that?” And when I got back to Washington I learned that she had just read it online. I had higher hopes for the coming days, but I remained unable to detect the beauty of the city that some were adamant about.

Though the city of Prague was not my favorite stop on the map, I did see my favorite concert of the trip there. There were two trombone players on the trip, one of them a good friend of mine, and the other being me. Fate really did us right the night of the concert, because the two of us got to sit in the front, on opposing sides of the conductor's podium. At first, it seemed like a misfortune because we were so far apart, but a large chunk of the concert contained a piece featuring two trombones, who were standing on opposing sides of the conductor’s podium, playing directly into the beaming faces of my friend and I.

What Prague lacked, in my humble opinion, outer beauty, it made up for in with the inner beauty of its concert halls. The two that we entered embodied what I wanted out of a concert venue in Europe. A lot of intricate gold carvings, very high ceilings, and large, beautiful chandeliers. The trombone concert hall featured a lovely organ, and the other, where we saw “The Devil and Kate,” features a large and elaborate tapestry as a curtain. Yay!
