Final Reflection for Music Centers of the World - Natalie Hodges

This past month I have visited 5 beautiful cities with my class to experience musical performances that were created from some of the most influential composers of all time. These cities were Berlin, Leipzig, Prague, Vienna and Salzburg.

It is hard to pick my favorite city that we've visited since I have had different experiences in each one. Not only were we lucky enough to see some of the best orchestras in the world, we also got to see famous monuments, landmarks, operas and other various types of live performances. I have also been grateful to have learned about the history of each of the cities as it is important to know when learning about how it has influenced music overtime. There was some history that was difficult to hear, such as the effects that World War 2 had on composers and many other types of artists. However, it was fascinating to hear stories about how the power of music still prevailed even within an environment that was being politically & socially taken over.

To be in the cities were composers like Bach, Beethoven and Mozart lived/worked has been an amazing experience. I have learned that what we know as music today is still  influenced by these masters of musical composition, and it has been a gift to attend the performances of wonderfully talented musicians that help represent the beauty of the most famous works that are still recognized by the world today.

Furthermore, I have enjoyed taking part in joining my classmates on various activities outside of our schedule such as going to the different resturants and shops around each city. Some notable experiences include the Berlin Zoo and the Pergamon museum as well.

Finally, I am glad to have met other students that share my interest in live performance. There are not enough words to describe how lucky I feel to have been on this trip. I will never forget the beauty of each city and the performances I've seen will stick with me for a lifetime. Most importantly, I have made memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Tomorrow I return home (on my birthday, funny enough), and I can't wait to share everything I've experienced with my family and friends!

Auf Wiedersehen!
