Mystical Prague with Lillian

The first full day of Prague overshadowed the following two days we spent there. I would like to keep my observations and thoughts somewhat private on the subject matter but I will say that visiting Terezin and learning about the horrors that happened there was easily the most monumental and overall the most life changing on this trip.

Frogs in Prague

Our first full day exploring in Prague began with a wonderful tour through the city. This included an incredibly old library, (with a preserved Dodo bird) so much beautiful architecture, centuries old chainmail and an authentic tour guide who filled the group with many facts and cheeky facts. I actually ended up walking through the palace on multiple occasions and was able to see at different times throughout the day. Though the tour was immensely cold but it was very exciting to understand the history of Prague even better.

Cityscape

One particular memory that stuck out to me while in Prague was the last day we were there. Waking up to snow and walking through the Prague palace was a beautiful experience. This also included looking over the cityscape while eating a dry panini from the Starbucks terrace. At two o'clock the group watched Dvorak's Kate and the Devil which I heavily enjoyed. The opera included such bright cartoony characters and the production design was so clever and kid friendly. It was very refreshing to see so many children at the opera house enjoying themselves. After grabbing a beer and a bite to eat at the oldest restaurant in Prague four of us went to experience a so-called mystical cave. After climbing up a very snowy hill within 10 minutes before the cave closed, we knocked hopefully on a slightly hidden door. A stranger with a long beard and rugged face opened the door and demanded a few euros to see his odd art. Climbing a spiral staircase we were all instantly weirded out by the interesting depiction of multiple similar fantasy lands. After exploring for 10 minutes we all were ready to get out of the claustrophobic space and left. The hill we had climbed up was very steep but we had not anticipated going down. It took us a solid 45 minutes to slip and slide carefully down the hill. This caused many panicked cries and loads of laughter and I enjoyed myself immensely. We finished the day trekking to a speakeasy and enjoying very delicious cocktails. Prague was very wonderful and has definitely been one of my favorite cities.
